Honorary CHELAN CHASE Champion

The last few years CHELAN CHASE has named a CHASE Champion to cheer on the CHASE participants as they cross the finish line. They also would speak of their experience as a breast cancer survivor during the Award Ceremony at the end of the race. Champions over past CHASE events have been from a survivor for many years to someone in treatment at the time of the race.

This year the CHELAN CHASE would like to change this custom and have an Honorary CHASE Champion. Our Champion this year is Susan Thorpe. She is a past member of Soroptimist and a well known business owner of the community. She was a CHELAN CHASE co-chair with Sharon Shade in 1998 at the first race sponsored by the Chelan Soroptimist club. Their initiative to change the CHASE to a breast cancer run and donate the money for breast cancer research and detection was started. Susan continued to be co-chair for many years. When she stepped down as chair she continued to stay on the committee and work the CHASE runs to insure the funds were used for the fight against breast cancer. Though Susan can not be with us to cheer on the participants in the race, she will surely be there in the spirit of the CHELAN CHASE.

If you would like to give a donation in the memory of Susan Thorpe please send a check to CHELAN CHASE, P.O. Box 1322, Chelan, WA  98816.

Soroptimist International of Chelan is proud to present the Chelan Chase, a USATF course-certified 5K Race/Run/Walk in Chelan, Washington, with proceeds equally benefiting the Lake Chelan Community Hospital Mammography Department and the Chelan Douglas Relay for Life / American Cancer Society.

Lake Chelan Community Hospital - The Chelan Chase donates 50% of its proceeds to the LCCH Mammography Department to provide diagnostic services at no personal cost to all individuals who are uninsured or under-insured.

Chelan Douglas Relay for Life - The Chelan Chase donates 50% of its proceeds to the Chelan Douglas Relay For Life. Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's signature activity. It offers everyone in a community a chance to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length. Team members share a common purpose — to support the American Cancer Society’s mission.

Join Soroptimist International of Chelan in promoting breast cancer awareness through the CHELAN CHASE.

Many thousands of women have been touched by breast cancer in one way or another during their life time; the CHELAN CHASE would like to make more women aware of breast cancer and how early detection can help save lives.

This year the CHELAN CHASE 2010 would like to focus on women that are survivors of breast cancer and women that have lost the fight against breast cancer. Please send us your pictures of these women with their approval. The photos should have the length of survival on the back and it will be displayed during the CHELAN CHASE in the Award Ceremony area. These photos will not be returned but will be a helpful reminder in many CHELAN CHASE promotions and events through out the year in breast cancer awareness.

We encourage you to gather pledges in the name of these women and participate in the CHELAN CHASE October 16, 2010. Honor the women that have touched your life so that others may benefit.
